MT series traps are fabricated from 304 series stainless steel. They can be installed in any position and operate at room temperature. The zeolite pellets are in a wire-cloth cylinder, offering high conductance. The wire cloth cylinders have baffles installed, which route the gas through the zeolite. For new installs or when base pressures can no longer be reached, the zeolite must be regenerated by baking. The zeolite is recharged by supplying 120v AC to the heater while the trap is under vacuum, with the mechanical pump’s gas ballast valve open. The bakeout cycle will remove the trapped water vapor from the zeolite. However, oil trapped by the zeolite may not be entirely removed as it can become baked into the zeolite. The regeneration process typically takes 3-6 hours, depending upon the amount and type of absorbed gases.
Zeolite should be replaced once saturated. It is easily changed: Simply remove the MT series trap from the system, unscrew the compression nut on the bonnet, drain, and then refill with new, clean zeolite. When properly used, the MT series traps will also lower the overall base pressure of the system.
